Lucknow: A devastating fire broke out at a coaching centre in Lucknow's Aliganj area on Monday, claiming the lives of at least 15 people and leaving several others injured. The blaze erupted in a three-storey building housing the coaching institute, triggering panic among students and staff. According to officials, the fire started on the upper floors of the building and spread rapidly, trapping several students inside. In a desperate bid to save their lives, many students reportedly jumped from the first floor and rooftop of the building. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with eight fire tenders rushed to the scene. Firefighters have so far rescued at least 12 people, while efforts to extinguish the flames and search for those still trapped inside are continuing. Eyewitnesses said several students remained stranded in the building as thick smoke engulfed the structure. Dramatic scenes unfolded as emergency responders worked tirelessly to evacuate those trapped. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. However, some local residents suspect that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze, though authorities have not yet confirmed the reason. The injured have been admitted to the trauma centre of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) for treatment. Hospital officials said more victims are expected to be brought in as rescue operations continue. Reacting to the tragedy, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the government has taken serious note of the incident. He stated that specialist medical teams and ambulances have been deployed, and officials have been directed to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. Pathak also expressed concern for those affected and said he was personally heading to the site. Authorities are expected to launch a detailed investigation into the incident once rescue and firefighting operations are completed.
