Textile Park to Revive Tirtol’s Defunct Sarala Spinning Mill Site
The Odisha government plans to establish a Textile Park at the site of the closed Sarala Cooperative Spinning Mill in Tirtol. After clearing ₹23 crore in dues and transferring the land to IDCO, the project is expected to attract major textile companies, generate employment, and revive industrial growth in the region.
Jagatsinghpur: After remaining closed for more than two decades, the site of the Sarala Cooperative Spinning Mill in Odisha’s Tirtol region is set for a major transformation. A new Textile Park will be established on the premises, bringing fresh hopes of employment and industrial growth to the district. The spinning mill, which ceased operations in 1999, had once been the district’s only major textile-based industrial unit. Established through the efforts of former Deputy Chief Minister Basanta Biswal, the mill provided livelihoods to numerous families before its closure left many workers unemployed. The project gained momentum after the Industries Department cleared pending dues worth ₹23 crore and transferred the land to the control of IDCO. The development has been welcomed by local residents, who see it as a long-awaited revival of industrial activity in the region. Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain announced that the proposed Textile Park is expected to open a new chapter for the district’s economy. He revealed that representatives from six internationally renowned textile companies have already visited the site to assess investment opportunities. The minister also expressed confidence that the project would provide a platform for local artisans and skilled workers to showcase their craftsmanship while creating new employment opportunities for the youth.Residents of the Tirtol constituency, delighted by the announcement, visited the minister’s office in Paradip to congratulate him and express their support for the initiative.
