According to National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, Rana breathed his last at a Delhi hospital on Thursday night after his health deteriorated. Reports said Rana suffered a cardiac emergency while returning from the ISSF World Cup in Munich. After landing in Delhi, he underwent medical treatment, including a stent procedure, but could not recover. A legendary name in Indian shooting, Jaspal Rana built an extraordinary career as both an athlete and a coach. A former Asian Games gold medallist and one of India’s most decorated shooters, he received the Arjuna Award, Padma Shri and later the Dronacharya Award for his immense contribution to the sport. As a coach, Rana played a defining role in shaping India’s next generation of shooters. He mentored Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and helped develop several top pistol shooters who carried India’s success onto the global stage. His passing marks a huge loss for Indian shooting, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, discipline and inspiration that will continue to influence generations of athletes.
