BJD Lists State Government’s ‘Failures’ After 24 Months in Power
BJD alleges multiple promises remain unfulfilled after 24 months of government rule. Ranendra Pratap Swain questions pension, farmer subsidy, and Subhadra Yojana commitments. Concerns raised over senior citizen benefits, student elections, and mid-day meal promises. BJD accuses the government of taking policy U-turns on several issues.
Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Odisha government, alleging that several promises made before coming to power remain unfulfilled even after 24 months. Addressing a press conference, BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain highlighted what he described as the government's major failures and policy U-turns. Swain alleged that the government had promised a monthly pension of ₹3,500 for beneficiaries, but has failed to implement it. He also questioned the government's commitment towards senior citizens, claiming that despite announcing benefits for citizens aged 80 years and above, the promised assistance has not been provided. The BJD leader further alleged that the government had assured farmers an input subsidy of ₹809 per quintal, but later reduced it to ₹735. He also criticized the implementation of the Subhadra Yojana, stating that while beneficiaries were promised ₹50,000, they are currently receiving only ₹10,000 per year.
Swain raised questions over several other issues, including the promise of queue-free darshan and free Mahaprasad at Shree Jagannath Temple, the government's alleged U-turn on student union elections, and the non-implementation of the promise to provide milk in mid-day meals for school children. He also accused the government of prioritizing salary hikes for ministers and legislators while failing to fulfill key welfare commitments made to the public. The ruling party has not yet officially responded to the allegations made by the BJD leader.
