9 Sand-Laden Hyvas Seized in Crackdown on Illegal Sand Smuggling to West Bengal

In a major crackdown on illegal sand mining and smuggling, officials from the Mining Department seized nine sand-laden Hyva trucks allegedly transporting illegally extracted sand from the Subarnarekha River to West Bengal. According to reports, Jaleswar Junior Mining Officer Tapas Kumar Behera conducted a raid near Gayatri Petrol Pump on National Highway-16 after receiving a tip-off about large-scale sand smuggling. More than 25 Hyva trucks were reportedly heading towards West Bengal carrying illegally mined sand. During the operation, over 15 trucks managed to flee the spot, while nine vehicles were seized by the authorities. In a dramatic turn of events, one of the drivers allegedly attempted to run over the mining officer's vehicle to escape. The driver was later detained and handed over to the police for further action.
Sources claim that hundreds of truckloads of sand are being illegally extracted from various locations along the Subarnarekha River and smuggled across the state border into West Bengal on a daily basis. The latest seizure has once again highlighted the scale of the illegal sand mining network operating in the region. Police and mining officials have launched further investigations into the smuggling racket and are expected to take stricter action against those involved.
