Orissa seeks Rs 2687.43 Cr flood assistance
Two months after the devastating floods, the Orissa government on Wednesday gave a final report to the Centre seeking an assistance of Rs 2687.43 crore besides, construction of two lakh houses under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) for the flood victims, official sources said. The memorandum sent to the Centre stated that the state had sustained a huge loss amounting to about Rs 2687 crore due to two floods, one in June and September.                                                                         More

Christian leaders demand nun's TIP outside Orissa

Notwithstanding an Orissa court's rejection of the plea to shift the test identification parade of a nun, who was allegedly raped, outside the state, Christian leaders have demanded that the exercise be held beyond the borders of Orissa. 'Some common friends on behalf of the community met Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday and put forth the demand,' Christian leader John Dayal told PTI here on Wednesday.                                                                               More
