Five trampled to death by elephant in Talcher

Talcher: Panic gripped the villages under Talcher forest range after five persons including two minor girls and a woman were trampled to death by an elephant in two different elephant attacks here.

According to sources, in Sandha village, the pachyderm went on a rampage and trampled four persons including three of a family to death while they were sleeping on their verandah at Sandha village last night.Similarly, in another incident, a 70-year-old man, identified as Bhramabara Samal, was killed by an elephant at Santhapada village when he had gone to attend nature's call last night.

On being informed, forest department officials reached the spots and seized the bodies for post mortem. However, the officials were not able to control the tusker till the last report came in.Efforts to drive the pachyderm away from human habitations are on, sources said.
