Gold worth Rs 20.5 lakh seized from passenger at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials on Wednesday seized smuggled gold worth Rs 20.5 lakh from a passenger at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.

The passenger, identified as Amarjeet Singh, arrived at the city airport from Bangkok in the midnight and was scheduled to fly to New Delhi.During frisking of the passengers and search, a CISF constable at the domestic Security Hold Area (SHA), recovered two gold bars wrapped with black adhesive tape and concealed inside the turban of the passenger.The smuggled gold bars of foreign origin weighing 610 grams, is estimated to cost around Rs 20.5 lakh, officials informed.The accused passenger, along with the seized gold and other belongings has been handed over to airport Customs officials and further investigation underway, sources said.
