Hartal: BJP activists arrested in city

Bhubaneswar: A large number of activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were arrested at the Master Canteen Square when they were marching towards the State Secretariat today.

The agitators came in a rally shouting slogans against the State Government and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as part of their 12-hour hartal. When they tried to marching towards the State Assembly, they were arrested.

Police arrested many senior party leaders including party general secretary Bhurgu Baxipatra, Prithiviraj Harichandan from Master Canteen Square from Master Canteen Square while party vice-president Sameer Mohanty, Lekhashree Samnatray among many women activists were arrested when they were coming to lay seige to the State Secretariat as part of the 12-hour hartal.

The saffron party is observing a dawn-to-dusk hartal today demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alleging that the CM is solely responsible for the suicide of the minor tribal girl on Monday, who was raped reportedly by four security personnel in Kunduli in Koraput district on October 10 last year.
